Get your free quote
Takes about a minute. No need to repair anything first.
Selling to us
- Free quote, with no obligation to sell
- Paid in cash when we collect your car
- Free collection from most of South East Queensland (we confirm it for your location)
A car with lapsed registration can sit for years because renewing means paying fees and possibly a safety inspection on a car you may not want. If that's your situation, you can ask us for a quote on the car as it is.
Tell us how long it has been unregistered and what condition it's in. The Queensland Government has published general information on selling unregistered vehicles, summarised below.
Sound familiar?
Registration ran out and you never renewed
Many owners let registration lapse on a car they've stopped using, then find it's hard to sell.
A safety inspection isn't worth the cost
If getting the car through an inspection would cost more than the car is worth, an as-is sale can make sense.
It's been off the road for years
Cars parked for a long time often need work as well. Tell us what you know about its condition.
You're not sure what your options are
You don't need to have it all worked out. Send the details and ask.
What to tell us about an unregistered car
- How long it has been unregistered
- Whether it has number plates on it
- Whether it starts and runs
- Where it is and whether it can be driven or needs to be towed
- Whether you have the keys and the ownership paperwork
You don't need every detail. Tell us what you know.
Selling an unregistered vehicle in Queensland: what the government says
- You can sell an unregistered vehicle in Queensland without a safety certificate.
- Sellers and buyers should keep a paper trail: signatures from both parties, the vehicle identification, chassis or engine number, make and model, and the date of sale. A simple contract or receipt that contains this information is acceptable.
- An unregistered vehicle permit is needed only if the vehicle has to be moved on Queensland roads. Compulsory third party (CTP) insurance is also needed for the length of the permit.
- If the vehicle isn't safe to drive, it will need to be moved by tow truck.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to repair my car before getting a quote?
No. Tell us what's wrong with it and we'll assess it as it is. There's no need to spend money on repairs first.
What information do you need for a quote?
The make, model, year, where the car is, and what condition it's in. Photos help us give you a more accurate figure but are optional.
Is there any obligation once I ask for a quote?
Asking for a quote doesn't commit you to selling. You decide whether the offer suits you.
Can you buy a car that isn't registered?
In many cases we can, subject to Queensland requirements. Tell us the details and we'll confirm.
Do I need a roadworthy certificate to sell an unregistered car?
The Queensland Government says you can sell an unregistered vehicle without a safety certificate. See the source linked above, and check with the Queensland Government if your situation is unusual.
